Imaginary Dialogues With Artists and Their Song Lyrics #1

I’ve been reading a lot of McSweeney’s recently, and I’ve noticed they have a penchant for absurd pop culture references and bizarre fictional humor. I’ve decided to add some imaginary conversations that I’ve had in my head with musical artists, in regards to their song lyrics. This offers me a chance to highlight some songs that I might not regularly on my other list of songs. Case in point, this inaugural post.

Song: 99 Problems
Artist: Jay Z
Album: The Black Album

Commentary: Jay-Z gives me some man to man advice.

Dialogue:

Jay-Z: If you have girl problems, I feel bad for you son.

Me:
Why is that Jay? And when did you become my dad?

Jay-Z:
I got 99 problems, but a bitch ain’t one.

Me: Well you see, I have 99 problems, and pardon my language, and a bitch is one.

Jay-Z:

Me: Actually, I don’t feel comfortable calling her a bitch, but she is probably the source of all 99 of my problems.

Jay-Z:

Me: Once again… really sorry about the language.

Jay-Z: 99 PROBLEMS BUT A BITCH AIN’T ONE!

Me: I should probably just leave now.
